What is vision?
Vision is the definition of what we want to achieve, and what direction we want to go. Vision represents our goals, our dreams, our hopes. Vision shows us the way we want to go, and what we are working for.
Vision is not just doing something, but giving meaning to that work. Vision provides us with a deep understanding of why we need that work, and why we have to work hard to achieve it. Vision motivates us to participate voluntarily and passionately in achieving our goals. This is the power of vision.
How does vision give value to our team or organization?
Vision gives value to our team or organization. Vision gives hope to the members. It gives them strength when they face difficulties, and courage when they experience failure. Vision helps them believe in their abilities, and maximize their potential.
The importance of vision can be seen in the case of climbing Everest. After Edmund Hillary succeeded in climbing Everest for the first time in 1953, only 58 people were able to conquer this great mountain for 24 years. But in 2004, a record number of 330 people climbed Everest in just one year. The secret of this change was in the ‘base camp’.
Raising the base camp means strengthening the foundation for preparing for the challenge. Setting a high level of vision in business is similar to setting a high base camp in climbing Everest. A clear and strong vision provides motivation for the organization members, and stimulates their passion and dedication for their work.
Therefore, it is important to set a high level of vision, and to work continuously to achieve it. In this process, the organization will achieve success. Just like climbers who challenge themselves to reach the summit of Everest by setting a high base camp and overcoming their limits, companies also need to set a high level of vision and achieve success through preparation and challenge.
How do we set and achieve our vision?
Vision shows us where we should go, and teaches us what direction our efforts should go. Vision gives us goals and plans for achieving those goals, and motivates us to do what is necessary. And the most important thing that vision gives us is the understanding of what we are working for, and what we are living for.
Vision has the power to inspire passion by itself. The effort to have a vision and achieve it promotes team motivation, and helps team members to perform their best. In this process, the organization can achieve greater growth and development.
The clearer the vision, and the more step-by-step it goes toward that vision, the more successful the organization can achieve. This process is similar to climbing. It is constantly challenging yourself to go higher, and going beyond your limits in the process. Eventually, these challenges and efforts lead to success.
Setting a vision is not easy. But once a vision is set and the direction to achieve it becomes clear, the organization can put all its efforts into moving toward that vision. Vision gives us a goal and guides us on how to get there. This is the power of vision, and the value it gives us.
Why do we need vision?
As Saint-Exupéry said, instead of simply ordering people to bring wood, give them a longing for the sea, and a vision to realize it. And there must be effort and challenge to realize that vision. It is the same as challenging yourself to reach the summit of Everest. You set up a high base camp and challenge yourself beyond your limits.
These challenges and efforts eventually lead to success. This is the value that vision gives us, and why we should move toward it. It is important to know what we are working for, what our dreams are, what our vision is, and to work and live for it.
On the other hand, teams or organizations without vision can lose direction. Doing something becomes the only goal, and they cannot understand what it means, or what goal they are going toward. As a result, members lose their motivation for their work, and the performance of the team or organization as a whole can decline.
Vision provides us with a goal that we can aim for in our work. Vision becomes the driving force that realizes our dreams, and gives us the effort needed to pursue them. Vision arouses our love and passion for our work, and it leads our team and organization through us.
In conclusion, vision is a compass that points us in the direction we want to go, and the most important motivation that makes our efforts valuable. It gives us purpose and meaning to our work, and makes us constantly move toward bigger goals. That’s why setting a vision, keeping it, and realizing it is essential for every team and organization.
